“Alert, Alert! Relax, relax.” –Meditation instruction from Machik Labron, an 11th century female Tibetan Buddhist master.

Join Samadhi Arts on November 5th at 1:30 and 4:00 PM for an interactive installation that transforms the Rubin Museum of Art gallery staircase into a path of awakening. Directed by Harry Einhorn, Stages of Samatha brings audiences on a symbolic and experiential journey through the phases of meditative awareness, guided by an ensemble of performers and an immmersive sound environment. Visitors are able to join the performance every 15 minutes during its two runs, one at 1:30 and one 4:00PM. Entrance is is free with museum admission.

Stages of Samatha is co-created and performed by Alexi Transparent, Bleue Liverpool, Michelle Sui, Goldie Poblador, and Ankita Mishra, and is part of Force of Stillness: Embodying Meditation in Creative Practice, a two-day festival of global contemporary film and performance influenced by Buddhism, curated by Amber Bemak and co-presented with Samadhi Arts . Force of Stillness includes renowned international artists and filmmakers such as Trinh Minh-Ha and Apichatpong Weerasethakul. On Friday night from 6-10PM please join Samadhi Arts at the Rubin Museum for a free opening night party with special cocktails and a DJ set from world-music pioneer Joro-Boro.
